ಸ್ಫೇರಿಕಲ್ ಕೌ
ಸ್ಫೇರಿಕಲ್ ಕೌ (Spherical cow) ಎಂಬುದು ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ಘಟನೆಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ಸರಳೀಕೃತವಾದ scientific modelಗಳನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುವ ಹಾಸ್ಯಾತ್ಮಕ ರೂಪಕವಾಗಿದೆ.[1][2][3][4] ಇದು theoretical physics ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡ ರೂಪಕವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ರೂಪಕವು ವಿಜ್ಞಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸರಳ ರೂಪಕ್ಕೆ ಕುಗ್ಗಿಸುವ toy modelಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಗಣನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸುಲಭಗೊಳಿಸಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಈ ಸರಳೀಕರಣವು ವಾಸ್ತವಿಕ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾದರಿಯ ಬಳಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು.

ಈ ಪದಪ್ರಯೋಗವು ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತ ಭೌತಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸುವ ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ಸರಳೀಕೃತ ಊಹೆಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವ ಹಾಸ್ಯಕಥೆಯಿಂದ ಬಂದಿದೆ.[5]
John Harte, ಅವರು 1965ರಲ್ಲಿ University of Wisconsin ನಿಂದ ಪಿಎಚ್ಡಿ ಪಡೆದರು,[6] ಅವರು ಈ ಹಾಸ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.[7] ಇದರ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಕ ಪ್ರಕಟಿತ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು 1970ರಲ್ಲಿ Brown University ಯ Arthur O. Williams Jr. ಅವರು ಬರೆದ ಲೇಖನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವರು ಇದನ್ನು “ಕೆಲ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಹರಿದಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಹಾಸ್ಯ” ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.[8]
ಈ ಕಥೆ ಅನೇಕ ರೂಪಾಂತರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ.[9] ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ, ಒಬ್ಬ ಭೌತಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಜ್ಞನು “ಶೂನ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಲಿಸುವ ಗೋಳಾಕಾರದ ಕುದುರೆಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಓಟದ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶವನ್ನು ನಾನು ಊಹಿಸಬಲ್ಲೆ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಹಾಸ್ಯಕಥೆ ಇದೆ.[10][11] 1973ರಲ್ಲಿ Science ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗೆ ಬರೆದ ಪತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ “ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕಥೆ” ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಒಂದು ಕೋಳಿ ಫಾರ್ಮಿನ ಮೊಟ್ಟೆ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗೆ ಪರಿಹಾರ ನೀಡುವಾಗ “ಮೊದಲು ಗೋಳಾಕಾರದ ಕೋಳಿಯನ್ನು ಊಹಿಸೋಣ” ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸುವ ಭೌತಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಜ್ಞನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿದೆ.[12]

ಈ ಕಲ್ಪನೆ ಬಹಳ ಪರಿಚಿತವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ, ಸರಳೀಕೃತ ಮಾದರಿಗಳ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸಲು ಈ ಪದಪ್ರಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ, Consider a Spherical Cow ಎಂಬುದು ಸರಳ ಮಾದರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಪರಿಹಾರ ಕುರಿತು 1985ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾದ ಪುಸ್ತಕವಾಗಿದೆ.[7] 2015ರಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ಯಾಲಕ್ಸಿಯ ಡಾರ್ಕ್ ಮ್ಯಾಟರ್ ಹ್ಯಾಲೋಗಳ ಗೋಳಾಕಾರದ ಸಮಮಿತಿ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾಡಿದ ಸರಳೀಕರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ದೋಷಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾದ ಒಂದು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಲೇಖನಕ್ಕೆ “Milking the spherical cow – on aspherical dynamics in spherical coordinates” ಎಂಬ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.[13]
ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ಮಾದರಿಗಳ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ ಈ ಹಾಸ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳು ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತವೆ. “Spherical Cow” ಎಂಬುದು Fedora 18 Linux distribution ಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾದ ಕೋಡ್ ಹೆಸರು ಆಗಿತ್ತು.[14] The Big Bang Theory ಸಿಟ್ಕಾಂನಲ್ಲಿ "The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization" ಎಂಬ ಎಪಿಸೋಡ್ನಲ್ಲಿ Dr. Leonard Hofstadter “ಶೂನ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಗೋಳಾಕಾರದ ಕೋಳಿಗಳು” ಎಂಬ ಪಂಚ್ಲೈನ್ ಇರುವ ಹಾಸ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.[15] ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಾತ್ಮಕ ಸ್ಪೇಸ್ ಗ್ರಾವಿಟಿ ಸಿಮ್ಯುಲೇಟರ್ ವಿಡಿಯೋ ಗೇಮ್ Universe Sandbox ನಲ್ಲಿ 2023 ಮಾರ್ಚ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಕೆದಾರರು ಇರಿಸಬಹುದಾದ ವಸ್ತುವಾಗಿ ಗೋಳಾಕಾರದ ಹಸುವನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.[16]
