The Sahitya Akademi Award for Telugu is a literary honour presented annually by the Sahitya Akademi, India's national academy of letters, to outstanding works written in the Telugu language. It is one of the most prestigious literary awards in India, recognising excellence across genres including poetry, novels, short stories, essays, literary criticism, biography, autobiography, and drama.
Background[edit | edit source]
The Sahitya Akademi was established in 1954 and began conferring its annual awards in 1955. Since then, the Telugu award has recognised seminal contributions to Telugu literature spanning more than seven decades. Recipients include acclaimed poets, novelists, short story writers, essayists, critics, and playwrights who have shaped the landscape of modern Telugu letters.
