Prior to that, he held the esteemed position of being the first Director of the [[Indian Institute of Technology]] (BHU), Varanasi, from 2013 to 2018. Furthermore, Dr. Sangal played a pivotal role in the development of IIIT Hyderabad, where he served as the Director for more than two terms from 2002 to 2013, during its establishment. Before his tenure at IIIT Hyderabad, he served as a faculty member at IIT Kanpur from 1982 to 1999.
